Brace Yourself For Rational Thought

Hello and welcome to Brian Bentzen’s Blog.  Here you’ll find discussion about politics and finances.  My goal is to use this website to express and refine ideas, and encourage discussion about topics that are important to all of us.

I grew up in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on a 21-acre hobby farm.  We didn’t have animals, except for chickens, cats,  a dog and a pond full of fish, but we had plenty of hand-cultivated vegetables which my parents grew organically after work.  We never had much money and didn’t go on a vacation for longer than a 3-day weekend during my entire childhood.  As a child I learned the values of hard work, personal responsibility and good health through everyday choices.

After I graduated from high school, I attended Muhlenburg College.  There I pursued two degrees, one in biology and the other in philosophy.  I became a writing tutor and took as many writing intensive courses as I could take within my majors.  After graduating, I attended the Penn State University College of Medicine and earned my M.D.  Currently, I’m an anesthesiology resident at the Hershey Medical Center.  I’ve started another webpage, Anesthesia Explained, that attempts to explain everything you need to know about anesthesia, whether you are a patient, a student, or a resident.

I started this blog to discuss the things that are on my mind, and the minds of many other people.  I am concerened about the future of our country, our citizens, our health care, and my own financial solvency.  I want to do my part to leave the world in a better condition than when I entered it.  I want to grow and I want to look back on my life and consider it meaningful.  For now my part is to share and refine ideas.  In the future I plan to put my money where my mouth is, and start at least one non-profit organization to help you do the same.

Your part is to share and refine your ideas and you can do so by leaving comments and sending emails.  I encourage you to sign up for the RSS feed by clicking on the RSS button in the upper right hand corner of the screen.  I hope to see you again soon.
